Andy Announced as Led Into Zeppelin's 'Bonzo'

I'm delighted to be invited into the drum-chair for the UK's most authentic Led Zep tribute show, 'Led Into Zeppelin'. Rehearsals have been going on for a few weeks, with gigs coming throughout the rest of 2011 and beyond.

These guys really do have the real look and sound of Zep, and are head and shoulders above any other tribute show I've seen. I'm very proud to be officially a part of the band alongside Paul Bradshaw (Robert Plant), Bram Duckworth (Jimmy Page) and Dave Holt (John Paul Jones). Check out www.ledintozeppelin.com or search 'Led Into Zeppelin' on Facebook

Happy to be a 'Los Cabos' drumsticks endorser

Thanks be to Sean Murtagh at Summerfield Musical Instruments for putting me in touch with Matt and the guys at Los Cabos in Canada - having used ProMark 747s since God was a boy, I have recently changed over to Los Cabos' 3A 'Red Hickory' sticks, and have to say they are delicious! Great weight, beautifully balanced - happy days!

Dear Diary, and other apologies...

Incredibly remiss of me, yet again! I seem to have completely neglected my interweb duties.

Well, I remain busy drumming! I've taken over the RockyOke drum throne full-time, which is enormous fun. We have regular stints at The Bridge Inn, Stalybridge (every Friday night), as well as monthly visits to The Famous King George in Oldham.

Dante Fox recording for the fourth album is going well - drums for the first five tracks were recorded on the HighWoods at Mad Hat studios in leafy Stafforsdhire just before Christmas (18" of snow, minus 13 deg temps!). Great sounds! Guitars are now recorded, and the files have been sent over to ace keys man Eric Ragno in L.A. for him to springle some magic digital dust over them. Hopefully the full album will be finished by summer.

Teaching has taken a back seat recently (due to work and gig commitments), but I hope to be back up and running with a new teaching studio (posh shed!) in summer.

Long Time Waiting!

Sorry everyone, this has been a very busy time recently and I have completely neglected my duties as web dude!

Our son Harry was born on November 17th last year, and he has taken up an immense amount of Rachel's and my time - all good! He's already developed a natural aptitude for drums!

Dante Fox wise, there have been some changes to line up for 2011, more to be announced when details are available - but writing for the fourth album is well under way and I hope to be able to announce some pretty damn impressive collaborations soon!

Gig wise, I've been busy depping mainly, with Rockyoke, as well as teaching.

The second Highwood kit is on order - another little guilty pleasure! If you haven't seen the stuff these guys produce, then you need to wake up and hit www.highwooddrums.co.uk .

I promise not to leave it so long next time!

P.S. There are some video clips up on my Myspace page www.myspace.com/andyperfectdrummer

Cheers!

Stick It To M.S. update

Things are marching on in the '600 Drummers' project, which is happening on Monday 13th July at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

600 'shed builders' will amass to smash the current Guiness World Record for the most drummers playing a piece together in one place (and hopefully in time too!).

We'll be joined by famous drumers such as Jojo Meyer, Karl Brazil, Don Powell (Slade), Mike Joyce (The Smiths), Craig Gill (Inspiral Carpets), Dave Verner (Badly Drawn Boy), Jason Bould (Pitchshifter), Craig Blundell (Session), John Coghlan (Status Quo), and the event will be M.C'd by comedian / actor and drummer John Thomson (is there no end to his talents!?).

The event is primarily to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and I am pleased to say that I am over half way to my target of £1000 in donations.

Please donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/andyperfect !

Hope to see you there!

Highwood Drums Have Landed!

At last, and following delays due to difficulties sourcing parts to my exact specification, I am delighted to say that the new Highwood kit has landed - and - it is MORE than worth the wait!

Apart from looking absolutely the mutt's nuts, the tone and projection from these drums in absolutely incredible - it really has blown me away. If you've not checked Highwood's works of art out yet, then I recommend you do so.

Stick It To M.S. World Record Attempt July 13th 2009

Hi Everyone!

I will be among over 600 drummers attempting to break the world record for the number of drummers playing simultaneously in one place, at the Birmingham Indoor Arena on July 13th.

The aim is to raise huge amounts of cash for the MS Society, who fund care and research for the sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis, a horrid and debilitating condition.

Some of you may know why this cause is close to my heart - my Dad suffered terribly with MS before he died, aged just 55, back in 1995.

I really hope you can spare a few quid and donate on my 'Just Giving' page.

New HighWood custom kit on order!

After a long search to find a replacement for the fabulous Premier Signia drums that Andy has used for many years, HighWood custom drums of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, have been commissioned to build the new main kit.

The drums chosen are from HighWood's 'VG' birch range, with a mean 22"x20" bass drum, quick toms (10"x7" and 12"x7.5"), plus two floor toms, all in 4.5mm Finnish birch. The kit, to be finished in classic Vintage Marine Pearl, and fitted with Black Nickel hardware and rims, is expected to be complete by the end of February 2009.

This does not mean the end of Andy's long held affection for and association with Premier drums - he'll be using the Artist Birch kit in the meantime, as well as his two Premier snares.

Check out HighWood's excellent range of custom drums at www.highwooddrums.co.uk.

Thanks to Gareth Heeley for the advice and guidance in specifying the kit, and to the guys on www.mikedolbear.com/forum for pointing in the right direction!
